If your kitchen appliances are getting old, you may want to consider investing in some new, Energy Star-labeled ones. Although it may seem like unnecessary spending, these appliances can significantly cut monthly energy costs. For example, self-cleaning ovens can save up to 25% of the energy generally used by ovens. This is because they are better insulated, and the heat is distributed evenly throughout the oven. Ovens with big windows can also help you save energy, as they allow you to check the food without letting heat escape unnecessarily.

Refrigerators are another large energy consumer. In fact, they are usually the largest energy consumer in the house. Energy efficient fridges will come with an energy-saver switch. Also, keep in mind that the traditional freezer-on-top fridges are more energy efficient. For more tips and information, you may find it useful to contact your electric company, like IDT Energy.

Efficient energy use is a great way to cut back on the monthly bill. The washing machine and dryer are both responsible for the loss of a large amount of energy- often more than is necessary.

While doing the laundry, one should always make sure to run a full load. Otherwise, extra water and energy are used. If you notice that you rarely fill the machine, you may want to consider switching it for a smaller one. And in general, if a new machine is in the budget, look for one that is Energy Star certified.
Run the wash with cold water whenever you can. Up to 75% of the energy used in a washing machine goes to heating the water.
For drying clothes, try using a clothesline during the summer. If that’s not your cup of tea, efficient use of your dryer can also help you cut back on energy costs. First, dry fabrics of similar weight together, but don’t combine many different types, as each will dry at a different pace. For example, do not dry your towels along with lightweight sheets or t-shirts. Also, if you shop for a new dryer, look for one with a moisture sensor that will shut off automatically once the clothes are dry.
There are many other ways to easily lower your energy bill. For advice and additional information, try contacting your electric company, like IDT Energy.

When the seasons are the most extreme, we tend to use the most energy. Take the advice of companies like IDT Energy and you will find that your bill is significantly lower.
First, adjust your thermostat. By setting your air conditioner five degrees higher, you can save up to 20% on cooling costs. Another way to cut back on cooling costs is to install ceiling fans. In most cases, these fans use less energy than a light bulb.
Water heating is responsible for around 13% of the total energy bill. Turn the water heater down to 120 degrees or to the ‘normal’ setting while you’re home, and to the lowest when you’re not.
Sealing leaks, cracks spaces and windows can save up to 20% on air conditioning costs. Be sure to check the insulation as well. Weather stripping is also very important.

According to many electric companies, such as IDT Energy, proper use of your appliances can lower your electricity bill. Commonly used appliances, like ovens or stoves, can consume a lot of power every day, and so it is important to use them correctly. Be sure to use pots that are compatible with the stovetop’s size, and keep them covered at all times while cooking. Be sure to use tops that fit tightly. If you need only to boil water, consider using an electric kettle, and only the required amount of water.

Preheat the oven for a short amount of time or not at all- only baking truly requires this, and use the window to inspect the food while it is in the oven. Every time the door is opened 20% of the heat is lost.  If you plan on using the self-clean feature, use it immediately after use of the oven so that it uses less power.  If you want to reheat food, you may want to do so in a microwave or toaster, as they require much less power than an oven.
